But some of the passage on the vile one is not so clear. How does it all play out in the end? What about the USA, Israel, what becomes of Russia, China; how does the vile one rise up to rule the world and set up his dark order? And another puzzle not dealt with—what about the temple? If the Scriptures pertaining to the abomination of desolation are literal; and if it is end-time prophecy; then there needs to be a temple in Jerusalem at the time of the rising up of the vile one in order for it to be fulfilled. (as well as a daily sacrifice to be stopped) But there hasn’t been a temple on the holy mount in Jerusalem since it was destroyed over 1900 years ago!
Again Daniel 11:31 says
And forces shall be mustered by him, and they shall defile the sanctuary fortress; then they shall take away the daily sacrifices, and place there the abomination of desolation.
Note: the daily sacrifice was the continual daily offering by fire on the brazen altar under the tabernacle/temple service; offered unto the Lord twice daily, once in the morning and again at twilight. Ex. 29:38-42
Paul in 2 Thessalonians chapter 2 tries to console the church concerning Christ’s return and their gathering unto him. Confusion had risen up; some were being misled, thinking Jesus Christ’s coming had arrived, or could be imminent, or any day. Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him, we ask you, brothers, not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by some prophecy, report or letter supposed to have come from us, saying that the day of the Lord has already come. (verses 1-2) Paul goes on to tell them that there must be two specific signs preceding Christ’s second coming. Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God. (verses 3-4) Here again it talks about the need for a temple at the time of the end—for the man of sin, the son of perdition to sit in—so he can proclaim to the world that he is god—just before the day of the Lord, and the gathering together of the believers!
It’s not that the Jewish people don’t have a passion for rebuilding the temple. In their formal prayers, especially the Orthodox Jews; whether in the Holy Land or the Diaspora, still turn towards Jerusalem and pray daily that the temple might be speedily rebuilt in their time. Plans, blueprints, materials for its construction; the Levitical Priesthood, much of the articles for the temple and priests are already set aside just waiting for the day.
Of course the two great obstacles for that day not being yesterday are the two Muslim Shrines now standing on the holy ground where the temple must stand. The Doom of the Rock, sometimes called the Mosque of Omar, is one of Jerusalem’s most recognizable architectural landmarks. With its brilliant golden dome. When seen from a distance its rich mosaic walls fade into a bluish hue. First built in the 600’s when Jerusalem was under Muslim rule, as a martyrium over the spot where it is believed Mohammad ascended in his night journey to heaven.
After the 6-Day War the Israeli government, in an effort for peace, granted management of the temple mount compound to a Muslim Council. And promised that “no harm whatsoever shall come to places sacred to all religions”.
The temple mount in Jerusalem is the most volatile, hotly contested religious site on earth. In 2000, the then Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s mere visit to the temple mount sparked clashes between stone-throwing Palestinians and Israeli troops.
In 1900, rumors that Jewish extremists planned to start rebuilding the temple ignited riots in which 17 Palestinians were killed and scores wounded.
In 1996 when the Israeli government opened an archaeological tunnel just outside the temple compound, it touched off riots in which 80 were killed, mostly Palestinians.
Jerusalem is a city divided. At the present, Israel claims it as their ‘united’ ‘eternal capital’; while the Palestinians insist East Jerusalem must be the capital of their future state. Some want to internationalize Jerusalem, some want to divide the land. The ‘New Jerusalem Project’ is the globalists solution to the seemingly intractable religious warfare; a plan to make Jerusalem a worship center for all monotheistic faiths; to be controlled by the international community. And once under their authority a combination temple/church/mosque would be built and the New Jerusalem Covenant would be declared as well as the New World Order Religion. Adan Oktar is an influential but controversial Muslim intellect and bestselling author, with over 65 million books in circulation. In 2009 he met with three representatives of the re-established Jewish Sanhedrin in Turkey to discuss how religious Muslims, Jews, and Christians could work together on the project to rebuild the temple. Said Oktar, ‘the palace of Solomon is a historically important palace; rebuilding it would be a very wonderful thing. It is something that any Jew, a Christian, or a Muslim should welcome with enthusiasm…the temple of Solomon will be rebuilt and all believers will worship there in tranquility’. Rabbi Hollander, a member of the Jewish Sanhedrin who is one who wants to bring peace among the nations through building the House of God said, ‘we shall work towards the building of the House of Prayer for All Nations on the Temple Mount in peace and mutual understanding’. Rabbi Hollander also says, ‘the building of the temple is one stage in the Messianic process’. (Religious Jews who reject Jesus still look for a Messiah to come who will either rebuild the temple himself, or in preparation of his coming the temple must be built). Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the president of Iran claims he was directed by Allah to pave the way for the glorious appearing of the Islamic Messiah, the Mahdi. Who is to rise up out of chaos and user in a time of world peace. Many like Adan Oktar believe the Mahdi will invade the land of Israel and establish his seat of authority on the temple mount. And it goes on and on: Tony Blair and his Tony Blair Faith Foundation; The New Age, who say Jerusalem is one of the few spots on earth with a ‘energy vortex’ (which can be positive or negative); the Freemasons, who claim to be the ones who built the first temple, Solomon’s Temple, saying they will build the 3rd temple and place their man in it.
Keep your eyes on Jerusalem…it plays a central role in end-time Bible prophecy. Again in Revelation chapter 11 the gentiles will trample down the holy city for 42 months. Also the two witnesses in chapter 11 prophecy for 1260 days and then are killed by the beast—and their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city…where also our Lord was crucified (11:8). And then of course, the vile one will place his abomination, probable some computerized image unto himself on the holy mount; and will stand in the temple proclaiming to the world that he is god, and establish his authority in the city of Jerusalem.
The portrait of the dragon and the beast in the book of Revelation also gives us great insight to what the future holds. The dragon, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan is pictured in chapter 12 as a fiery red dragon with seven heads, and ten horns, and seven crowns on his heads. The beast also is pictured with these same seven heads and ten horns in chapters 13, 17 & 18 (along with the name of blasphemy on his heads). God is trying to show us something. The seven heads are significant. The seven heads on the dragon and the beast signify their life span—they have seven heads of life to live on earth. In Revelation 17 the seven headed beast is explained. The apostle John was astonished when he saw the vision of the women and the beast. But the angel said to John, Why did you marvel? I will tell you the mystery of the women and the beast that carries her, which has the seven heads and the ten horns. The angel said of the beast that he ‘was, and is not, and yet is’. That is to say: it was of the past, it is of the present, and it will be of the future. The angel went on to say,
Here is the mind which has wisdom: the seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman sits. There are also seven kings. Five have fallen, one is, and the other has not yet come. And when he comes, he must continue a short time. The beast that was, and is not is himself also the eighth, and is of the seven, and is going to perdition (destruction). 17:9-11
The seven mountains are not the seven hills of Rome. Nor are the kings seven Roman Emperors. The beast is much more vast, and wide, and extensive then mere Rome. The beast is representative of man’s governments, man’s rule over man—beastly and blasphemous. And the seven heads are his great crowning achievements in his rule, his mountain top empires, his kings of kingdoms. Five have fallen, one is (at the time John the apostle wrote down the vision—the Roman Empire) and the other has not yet come.
Study ancient history, and see, and count them. The first great world power was Egypt. Next Assyria. Then came the Babylonians and their invincible city, the envy of the ancient world. With its massive outer walls (said to be over 80 feet thick). Encircled by a deep moat replenished by the waters of the Euphrates; which ran through double levered gates into the city dividing it into two halves. If the outer wall could possibly be penetrated, an invading army would then have to contend with caldrons of hot oil, and archer’s arrows from yet a second, inner wall.
When Cyrus the Great and his army encamped against the golden city he was mocked. When he seemed to withdraw the Babylonians partied. Babylon’s greatest weakness was its own pride. Under the cover of darkness Cyrus diverted the tributary leading into the city, redirecting it from its normal flow. Thus his army was able to enter the city and took it virtually without a fight.
After the dual rule of the Medo-Persian Empire then came Greece and Alexander the Great. Who conquered the known world of his day in just ten years. And after Greece of course came the Roman Empire. Five have fallen: Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Medo-Persia, and Greece. One is—in John’s day—the Roman Empire. And one has not yet come: one great one world empire must rise up after Rome, the seventh head, at the end. Eventually headed up by the infamous end time leader…the beast that was, and is not is himself also the eighth, and is of the seven…it appears that the antichrist rises up out of the last one world government to eventually rule it, as Daniel 7 seems to suggests…but it will be short lived… and when he comes, he must continue a short time… a decision is made in the courts of heaven that changes everything. The vision in Daniel chapter 7 will also show us the end-of-the-story for the beast—what becomes of this monster after his life span of seven heads has run its course.
As Rome declined the nations and peoples of the earth continued to grow and multiply. Spreading broad and wide across the globe. Great leaders would arise and rule over dominions—Charlemagne, Genghis Khan, Napoleon—but one world rule now seemed more of an impossibility.
Many felt the end was near, that the antichrist had come, when Hitler rose to power. Much can be learned from the Nazi regime. Many of its methods and madness will be imitated by the end time regime, but on an even grander scale. But Hitler also fell short. The seventh and last head of the beast will arise in its time, in God’s time; at the time of the end just before Jesus Christ’s second coming.
And the dragon has the same seven heads and ten horns like the beast with one distinction: there are crowns on the heads of the dragon but not the beast. (Except the personified beast in chapter 13—the ten horns are crowned as well as the seventh and last head.) It all has meaning and significance. The dragon’s heads are crowned because he is the god, the prince of this world (2 Corinthians 4:4, John 12:31, 14:30). At the beginning of his ministry on earth, when Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, the devil took him up a high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. The devil said to Jesus, ‘all this authority I will give you, and their glory; for this has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I wish. Therefore, if you worship before me, all will be yours.’ (Luke 4:5-8). The significance of the crowns on the heads of the dragon is that he rules in the affairs of man. It is actually the dragon who has been allotted the seven heads of time to do his evil deeds on earth, and wreak his havoc among the nations. But the dragons rule is in the spiritual realm, it is the beast that is the visible, outward manifestation. And the dragon remember, is the one who empowers the personified beast for the 42 month end time rebellion (Revelation 13:2, 4). Thus in chapter 13 the beast’s seventh and last head has a crown on it—along with the ten horns. The angle in Revelation chapter 17 also explains the ten horns on the beast:
The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast. These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast. These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with Him are called, chosen, and faithful.
The purpose and time of the ten horns/kings is the end times—this is their crowning moment—they receive authority for one hour with the beast—serving the end-time leader for a short time; helping the vile one rule the world and implement his dark order, the 666 system. And it’s interesting that the globalist, in their report entitled “Regionalized and Adaptive Model of the Global World System” already have the world and nations divided into ten political/economic regions, actually calling them “kingdoms”; which would then be ruled over by a central power. Of course they’re not planning on the antichrist being that power (or maybe they are).
But in the end light and darkness, good and evil will clash with a mighty battle of the ages—between the old age of the 7 headed dragon and beast and the new age of the Son and the Saints—in utter pride, the beast and the kings of the earth will gather their armies to wage war with the Lamb. But in the end all will bow down before Him (Philippians 2:9-11, Revelation 5:13). These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with Him are called, chosen, and faithful. Read about this battle and the final outcome in Revelation chapter 19.
In the vision in chapter 7 of the book of Daniel we also see the ten horns/kings, and are given more details. Here we see the end-time leader rising up from among them after they are already established, and having to subdue three of them.
The ten horns are ten kings who shall arise from this kingdom. And another shall rise up after them; he shall be different from the first ones, and shall subdue three kings. He shall speak pompous words against the Most High, shall persecute the saints of the Most High, and shall intend to change times and law. Then the saints shall be given into his hands for a time and times and half a time. But the court shall be seated, and they shall take away his dominion, to consume and destroy it forever. Then the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole heaven shall be given to the saints of the Most High. His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey Him. Daniel 7:24-27
We see the same actions and features in this leader that rises up from among the ten horns/kings in Daniel 7 as we do with the beast of Revelation 13, and the vile one of Daniel 11: he has the same big blasphemous tongue; we see the all out war against the saints; we see the 3 ½ year time period; and his kingdom and his fate is exactly the same as the beast and kings of the earth we see in Revelation 19.
The early church had the right interpretation to end-time prophecy. The earliest Christian apologists, Justin Martyr, Irenaeus would have had the same eschatology (doctrine of the end times) as that of John the apostle, since they learned under Polycarp, who was a direct disciple of John’s. Their simple interpretation of Daniel 7 was that ten kings or kingdoms would arise from the Roman Empire, and out of them would come the end time antichrist. There would then be a short time of great tribulation just preceding the second advent of the true Christ and setting up of the Kingdom of God. The Reformation believed that the ten kings or kingdoms applied to the immediate Roman-Gothic kingdoms that rose up in Europe after Rome’s decline. However, the leader rising up from among the ten they believed to be the papacy. From Luther to Calvin, from Wycliffe to Knox—they believed the pope was the beast of Revelation 13, the antichrist. The time, times, and half a time the early church felt was literal. An all out war against believers by the end time leader for 3 ½ years. Remember in the prophecy a king rises up from the ten who will persecute the saints and prevail over them, and the saints will be given into his hand for a time (one year), times(two years) and half a time(half a year). After which, a judgment is made in the courts of heaven by the Ancient of Days (God the Father) to stop the persecutions by putting an end to the persecutor, and his reign of terror. (study the prophecy in Daniel 7) If the leaders of the Protestant Reformation felt that the pope or papacy was the king who rises up from the ten than what about the 3 ½ years? Papal authority still rules to this day! And the Inquisition itself lasted for hundreds of years.
What the Reformers did was take the 3 ½ years and converted them into days (1260 days) then took the days and converted them back into years—equaling 1260 years. Using the year-for-a-day principle. Taking passages like—Numbers 14:34 and Ezekiel 4:6 to defend this method.
But then the question must be asked if the saints are given to be persecuted for 1260 years: than when did the 1260 years begin and when was its conclusion? (And remember, in the prophecy after the 3 ½ years the persecution is stopped by destroying the persecutor. And his dominion is taken away, and the kingdom then given to the Son and Saints). There actually was no consensus as to its beginning, nor its end.
Saint Augustine had the right approach—to be truth seekers. And to be cautious and open on the obscure. During his era of the Christian Empire there was no one to pin the antichrist tag on. Daniel and the book of Revelation seemed like allegories, they didn’t fit a literal, historic view. Augustine’s eschatology was his writings on The City of God. Two cities coexisting on earth. One eternal, heavenly; the other, powerful in this world, seemingly invincible, yet perishing in the end of its own corruption. Well the City of God had no end.
In the mid 1500’s the Society of Jesus, the Jesuits were commissioned by the pope to come up with an alternative, more Catholic friendly version of Bible prophecy. Spanish Jesuit, Luis de Alcazar maintained in his work Investigation of the Hidden Sense of the Apocalypse, that the prophecies in Daniel and the book of Revelation had been fulfilled. They did not apply to the Middle Ages or the papacy. And the Roman Catholic Church rather than being the villain was the victor—New Jerusalem, converting pagan Rome and saving it from idolatry. To Alcazar the giving of the kingdom to the saints symbolized the triumphant and glorious Roman Catholic Church.
In Isaac Newton’s later years he spent more time studying scripture then science. He became obsessed with the prophecies in the Bible. The father of physics, inventor, discoverer; one of the greatest scientific minds and mathematicians of his day became convinced that there were secrets hidden in the writings of the ancients. And that a select chosen few could unlock them—including the date of the end of time. He worked feverishly to try and uncover God’s plan, and calculate the day of the apocalypse. He believed the Jews would return to Israel; that Jerusalem was the center of the world. And that just before the end the 3rd temple would be built there, on the holy mount. His final conclusion was that the end would come in the year 2060.
Never forsake the words of this prophecy, for concealed within these very lines, the wise shall know the end of times—Isaac Newton.
Yes, exactly, this is it! The wise shall know, just as it is written
Go your way Daniel for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end. Many shall be purified, made white and refined, but the wicked shall do wickedly; and none of the wicked shall understand, but the wise shall understand. Daniel 12:9-10
It is for the wise, the saints to know, to understand, to see—but—it is for the wise of a distinct and precise and fixed time to know! It is for the privileged ones, the remnant, those of the end times—when God Himself will lift the veil, and break the seal, and the eyes of their understanding shall be opened! This is the key—the very times is the key, the end times! When end time events actually start to happen; literally start to take shape and form before our very eyes! Then it will be hard not to see! Those of the end times won’t be hindered or mislead by their times, for it will be the time, the time of the unveiling!
Even the early believers were hindered by their time. Though they had the right interpretation they felt they were living during the end. That Jesus was going to return in their day. The New Testament writers wrote things like…this is the last hour…the end of all things is at hand…for the coming of the lord is at hand…the time is short.(1 Corinthians 7:29, James 5:7-8, 1 John 2:18, 1 Peter 4:7) They felt Rome would simply give way to another kingdom ruled by ten kings or kingdoms. And out of it the antichrist would arise, and then the return of Jesus Christ. But its been 1500 years plus and still no antichrist, no end times and no end time leader.
But those of the last days won’t be hindered but helped. The end time signs will not come without warnings. There will be signs of the signs. The prophecy in Revelation 17 says one last world power must rise up after Rome at the time of the end—the 7th head of the 7 headed beast. Today its common place to hear about the need for a one world government, and of its soon coming.
In the next century (now/21st)nations as we know it will be obsolete; all states will recognize a single global authority and realize national sovereignty wasn’t such a great deal after all—Time magazine 1992,Strobe Talbott
But the world is now more sophisticated and prepared to march towards a world government. The supranational sovereignty of an international elite and world bankers is surely preferable to the national auto-determination practiced in the past century—David Rockefeller
His task (President Obama’s) will be to develop an overall strategy for America in this period when, really, a new world order can be created. It’s a great opportunity it isn’t just a crisis—Kissinger
Five have fallen, one is (the Roman Empire—the 6th head, in John the apostil’s day) and one is yet to come. And when he comes he must continue a short time. We can even now see in our day, the 21st century the forming, the signs of the rising up of the 7th and last head of the beast.
Also the ten horns/kings that make up the end time empire. If they are literal there will be definite signs of their empire and power in their time. Again
The ten horns are ten kings who shall arise from this kingdom. (the Roman Empire) And another shall rise after them ( the end time leader. Who openly blasphemes God. Mounts an all out war against the saints for a time, times, and half a time. Then the war and persecutions are stopped by doing away with the persecutor and his kingdom, and then the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole heaven shall be given to the saints of the Most High. Daniel 7)
It was easy for the Protestant Reformation to think the ten horn/kings to be the immediate Roman-Gothic kingdoms that rose up in Europe after Rome’s decline. And also for the papacy or pope to be the antichrist. But their time wasn’t the end times. After time the other parts of the prophecy didn’t fall in place. They had to change the 3 ½ years to 1260. And even after 1260 years the papacy remained. As well as the persecution of Christians (there is more persecution of Christians in the 20th and now in the 21st century then all others centuries combined). And the kingdoms of this world under the whole heaven still are not ruled by the Son and the Saints. The eschatology of the Protestant Reformation is no longer taught today (except the 7th Day Adventist still use a form of it).
Until recently, a literal fulfillment of Daniel 7 seemed out of the question, no longer possible. How could a ten king kingdom rise up from that which was once Rome at the end of times, or in modern times?
But again, the globalists have now divided the world (the peoples and nations that were once ruled by Rome) into ten political/economic regions, calling them “kingdoms” as the structure of their planed soon coming one world government. And if this one world government actually comes to power another leader, a vile one could rise up from within to rule it. So Daniel 7, as well as other end time prophecy could literally be fulfilled in our time! And the dragon could empower the beast for 42 months; bring about a great tribulation and all out war against the saints; until the Son of Man appears in the clouds sending forth his angels to gather the elect, everyone how is found written in the book. Not in allegory, but in reality!
No there is no one world government now, and there is no temple on the holy mount. No temple for the vile one to defile; and to stand in proclaiming to all “I am god”, the Messiah, the Mahdi, Maitreya—the Deliverer.
But in a little speculation, it wouldn’t take much…a big war. Especially an all out war between the Arabs and Israel. In which Russia and China would back the Arabs, and USA would back Israel. And in the aftermath the globalists could set up their one world empire. And in a gesture of peace the New Jerusalem Covenant could be signed. And the combination temple/church/mosque built making Jerusalem an international religious center for all faiths. The Jews could then reinstitute the korbano—the sacrificial system of worship. Making the possibility of a literal interpretation of Daniel 11:31 in the 21st Century; where the daily sacrifice could be stopped, and the abomination of desolation that Jesus told his followers to keep an eye out for could be set up in the holy place!
